A few weeks before Christmas, my husband Randy and I tuned in to a livestream to watch our 11-year-old granddaughter’s 6th grade choir concert. Despite a slightly fuzzy picture, there she was—what a gift to enjoy the concert from our living room over two hours away! The wonders of technology!
As I watched the concert, brimming with pride, memories of my granddaughter’s age flooded back. Those tween years for girls can be tricky—navigating friendships, fitting in, and worrying about being liked are significant concerns at that age. I remember!
When I learned about the book Let’s Be Friends by mother/daughter duo Blythe and Calyn McIntosh, I immediately thought of my granddaughter. What a great guide for girls to find and maintain strong friendships. I wish I had this book during my tween years! Feeling awkward and desiring to fit in is a part of growing up, and Let’s Be Friends openly addresses those feelings. Girls reading this devotional will feel like someone “gets them.”
The interactive chapters help girls process feelings like not fitting in, comparing themselves to others, or dealing with rejection. Each chapter ends with “Words for You,” providing wisdom and thoughtful questions for tween girls to journal about.
This engaging book offers various ways for tween girls to grow their friendships. Most importantly, it reminds girls that “God says, ‘That’s my girl. She is my creation.'” I recommend this book for anyone with a daughter or granddaughter in this age group.
And I have a book to give away! Just type “book” in the comments and I’ll add your name to the drawing!
Blessings,
Deb
